OTAMate Technology Ltd today announced the java games appstore they had been running since 2001, javaphonegames.com, would now carry and promote Android content.

Carl Whalley, OTAMate Technology Ltds Software Development Manager, said "we are commited to Android having recognised from the start its perfect combination of stability, rich UI and openness. Now the 3rd party app market is booming its a great time to extend javaphonegames.com to carry free Android content as they represent a natural fit for each other. Android apps are different from the content traditionally carried (J2ME) as each handset has direct access to the Android Market. We see this extension as a way to complement that by providing authors with another route to market. Users too will benefit from the extra exposure apps will receive - with so many now available some apps can appear to be lost in the crowd. This offers an alternative promotion method to help address that problem."

The promise to users by javaphonegames.com is that all content is free. There are several ways publishers can distribute content with no direct charging model, a popular one being ad-supported content. Many Android apps are increasingly using this as an alternative revenue model, making distrubution via this additional channel particularly attractive.

Currently there is no charge for publishers to upload content. However, OTAMate may review this policy and will notify publishers of any changes as and when they occur. They did promise no retrospective listing fees would be applied if this does happen, thus encouraging Android app publishers to upload their titles now before any possible fees are introduced.
