OTAMate Application: WebOTA

Services used: OTATransceiver

WebOTA is a web based service for managing mobile phones. It can send various settings and data to handsets according to predefined parameters. One example is the configuration of the handset for internet access using a particular service provider's APN. There are many more WAP 2.0 compliant services supported ranging from device synchronisation to single bookmark transmissions. The full specifications of the control provided can be found at the Open Mobile Alliance website.

WebOTA uses OTATransceiver as the delivery service. The system uses its own XML based profile manager so the user can retrieve setups instantly. It combines these with the transmission lists which hold the target phone number(s) it will broadcast to. All services are available via SOAP and .NET, so customers can invoke them from their own applications. The actual transmission bearer can be switched on demand. This means their applications can be developed in-house, using for example dummy SMSCs or GSM modems, and a bulk service provider activated for production use with minimal effort.
